How to keep your pipes from freezing up north
A frozen pipe can turn into a flooded basement. A few simple steps before the cold snap go a long way.

Before winter
Disconnect garden hoses and shut off outdoor faucets. Add foam insulation to pipes in crawlspaces, garages and along outside walls. Seal drafts near pipes.
During a deep freeze
Let a faucet drip on the coldest nights. Open cabinet doors under sinks so warm air reaches the pipes. Keep the heat on, even when you are away.
If a pipe freezes
Shut off the water and call us. Do not use an open flame to thaw a pipe. We thaw it safely and fix any damage.
